The Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) through its Investment Promotion (IP) department is the primary facilitator of private sector investment in Tourism. In executing its mandate, the LTDC offers a range of services including:
- Facilitation of acquisition of work and residence permits

- Investment facilitation services
- Aftercare Services
- Facilitation of training

LTDC has identified the following key areas for tourism development:
Accommodation Facilities and Resorts Developments
There are opportunities for development of accommodation establishments at key tourism destination in the country. Development of hotels, up market lodges and resorts at prime tourist destinations throughout the country, including the Lesotho Highlands area - Katse, Mohale, Lejone, Bokong, Ts’ehlanyane, as well as Sehlabathebe, and Sani Pass.
Wellness and Health Resorts
Abundance of water, freshness of high altitude air and a good supply of endemic medicinal plants, places Lesotho in good stead as a health and wellness destination.
This sub-sector is an emerging, yet growing segment of tourism in Lesotho, for potential to set up credible tour operation business in collaboration with local operators.
Boating Excursions and Canoeing
Water popularly known as “white gold” is in abundance in Lesotho. There exists an opportunity for unique environment friendly water based tourism activities around areas such as the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) Dams areas, and throughout the country’s pristine rivers.
Ski Resorts and Related Services
Well known as the Kingdom in the Sky, Lesotho‘s high altitude and snow capped mountains in winter boasts awe inspiring slopes for the development of Ski Resorts. The now flourishing Mahlasela Afri Ski Resort is evidence that skiing is a viable investment in Lesotho.
High Altitude Sports Training Facilities
Lesotho is the only country in the world whose entire territory lies 1500m above sea level. This presents an opportunity for development of high altitude sports training facilities in areas such as Mohale.
Other Opportunities Include
Development of heliports for panoramic view of the majestic Maloti Mountain range, parachuting and hot air ballooning, adventure films shooting location, development of traditional arts and crafts for export, business and information call centres, conferencing getaway venues, and golf estates.
