IFAD - International Fund for Agricultural Development
Lesotho is also member of IFAD. The membership of IFAD is open to any State that is a member of the United Nations, any of its specialised agencies or the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Fund’s Member States are classified according to Lists and Sub-lists.
List A – which comprises of Primarily Contributing Developed Countries; List B – comprising of Primarily Contributing Developing Countries and List C – which is potential recipient Countries List, is further divided into Sub-list C1 for Countries in Africa and Sub-list C2 for Countries in Europe, Asia, and the Pacific, and Sub-list C3 for Countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. List System within IFAD – Lesotho falls in List C, Sub-list C1.
I principali obiettivi del dell'IFAD nel nostro paese sono per migliorare la sicurezza alimentare e la nutrizione della famiglia. Dal 1980, l'IFAD ha sostenuto lo sviluppo agricolo, investendo in otto programmi e progetti per ridurre la povertà nelle zone rurali del Paese. L'Ambasciata del Lesotho Roma è la relazione esistente tra Lesotho ministeri competenti e IFAD, nel corso Agricoltura sostenibile e il programma di gestione delle risorse naturali, che fornisce il supporto per i piccoli agricoltori in modo da poter aumentare la produzione agricola e la produttività in modo sostenibile ad esempio I recenti programmi IFAD finanziato in Lesotho sono:
- The Rural Financial Intermediation Programme which aims at enabling poor rural people to access financial services that respond to their needs
- The ongoing Smallholder Agriculture Development Project and
- The Wool and Mohair Promotion Project.
IFAD Operations in Lesotho focuses on the following main dimensions:
- Diversification and intensification of agriculture
- Rehabilitation and reclamation of degraded lands.
- Developing rural financial services to support improved agricultural productivity and creation of income-generating activities.
